The Writing and Community Learning workshop will be held downtown at Trinity College at 10 Constitution Plaza, Hartford CT. Look for a one-story glass building on the plaza level, above the street level. Walk up the stairs to Constitution Plaza at the corner of State House Square and Market Street, or at the corner of Kinsley Street and Market Street.

Parking is available in the Constitution Plaza Parking Garage (North and South), and we will validate parking for all workshop participants. We recommend the South garage, as the elevators take you directly to 10 Constitution Plaza. The entrance for the garage is at 20 Kinsley St., between Market and Columbus. You can find more on directions and parking here (though this website is primarily for students traveling to 10 Constitution Plaza from Trinity’s main campus).

Description of Event

At this half-day workshop for faculty, staff, and community partners from across New England, we will engage with big-picture questions about what participants want students to learn in their community-engaged courses and consider how they might use writing to achieve those goals. Participants will hear from renowned community literacy scholar Ellen Cushman, gain valuable writing resources (including sample assignments), and take part in small- and large-group discussions about why, when, and how to use writing across community learning contexts.

Guest Speaker: Ellen Cushman, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Diversity, and Inclusion; Dean’s Professor of Civic Sustainability at Northeastern University; Cherokee Nation citizen.
